Bio

Anton Domozhyrov was born in Voroneg, Russia in April 1969. He was immediatly immersed in music as both his parents were accomplished musicians, his mother a violinist and his father a violist. He got his first taste of instrument making in 1976 (a year after moving from Voroneg to Dnepropetrovsk in the Ukraine) when his father opened his first vioin making workshop. Over the next twelve years he helped out in his father's workshop by cutting wood and hand crafting accessories.

After serving a mandatory two years in the Soviet Army Anton decided to become a luthier and travelled to Moscow where he studied with Pavel Schudtz, dean of the Russian makers. Mr. Schudtz was a violin competition gold medalist and served as a competition committee member. Between 1993 and 1997 Anton was very fortunate to learn from Anatoly Kochergin, a master at violin making and restoration specialist for Russia's National Collection in Moscow.

During the summer of 1997 Anton and his family moved to Tel-Aviv, Isreal where he continued his studies with Nahoum Tukh. It's with Nahoum Tukh that Anton gained a vast amount of experience as he worked for him in his workshop during the next five years restoring every instrument in the violin family as well as bows.

Finally , in 2002 Anton decided to move one more time with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where he currently resides. He spends his time making new violins as well as restoring other violins, violas, cellos and double basses.
